Beaches across Courier country have once again been named as some of the best kept in Scotland.
Twenty-two stretches of golden sand in Fife, Angus and Dundee have been recognised for providing high standards to visitors in the Scottish Beach Awards, organised by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Broughty Ferry, East Haven, St Andrews, Elie and Crail are among the sixty Scottish beaches which have been awarded a flag for excellence – with St Andrews West and Gullane sands winning the award for a 25th year in a row.
Lunan Bay was an addition to the this year’s list, and Fife had the highest number of award winning beaches in Scotland, with 15.
Derek Robertson, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “The Scottish Beach Awards set the standard for our stunning coastlines and inland shores – making sure that they are litter free, provide excellent facilities for families and encourage more visitors to our beautiful beaches.
“Going to the beach is a tradition that we want to continue, while protecting this valuable environment.
“It is vital that we maintain our support for organisations efforts to ensure that Dundee’s coastlines offer a great day out whilst recognising the wider benefits of a good quality environment for people’s health and wellbeing and local economies.”
