Police swooped on a Dundee housing estate amid reports of a man on the street brandishing a large kitchen knife.
Footage captured by locals shows a man in a baseball cap, with what is believed to be a blade, hiding beside a wall at Bonnethill Court.
Residents living in the Hilltown Terrace area feared someone could have been seriously harmed during the incident on Friday night.
Police say they are investigating and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
In the video, the man can be seen holding a knife behind his back as he appears to communicate with a woman on a nearby stairwell.
He then appears to follow the woman and the full extent of the blade is seen.
Terrified residents contacted police after seeing the size of the weapon as they feared someone was going to be attacked.
‘It was a huge kitchen knife’
One woman, who did not want to be named, says she believed the man may have been in possession of a second knife.
She told us: “At first we weren’t sure what he was carrying, then we saw it was a huge kitchen knife.
“My dad said he had a second knife which he hid very quickly – we were panicking.
She continued: “The woman was going from stairwell to stairwell and it appeared the man was waiting for someone.
“He then hid the knife behind his back.
“We were in communication with our neighbour and they told us they had called the police.”
Five police units were dispatched to the incident as officers combed the area to try and trace the pair.
Police in the area for an hour
The resident added: “The man and woman walked back along Hilltown Terrace together, towards the main road.
“It’s terrifying that someone was walking about in broad daylight in possession of a huge kitchen knife.
“If someone was prepared to take a weapon like that, you worry what they’re capable of.
“Officers remained here for over an hour and carried out interviews.”
A police spokesman confirmed inquiries were ongoing and confirmed no one was injured.
He said: “We were made aware of a man and woman in possession of a knife at Hilltown Terrace in Dundee shortly after 8.10pm on Friday May 12.
“Officers attended, but they had left prior to police arriving.
“Nobody was reported as injured and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
