Work to replace masts on the RRS Discovery has begun.
The masts were taken down in November to allow restoration work on the famous ship to take place.
Now, six months later, the masts are finally returning to their rightful place with the first one re-installed yesterday morning, pictured.
The historic vessel will be closed until the end of the month while the ship, which has been in dry dock for two years, is reassembled.
The Discovery will be floated next year so it is back on the water in time for the opening of the V&A.
Before that can happen the ship’s hull will need to be resealed and caulked.
New floodlights will also be installed ahead of the opening of the V&A.
Dundee Heritage Trust operations director Mark Munsie said: “In partnership with the waterfront development team, we will have new floodlighting which should blend in well with the V&A.
“We realise that the eyes of the world will be on the city when the museum opens and the RRS Discovery is an iconic part of that.”
Entrance to Discovery Point is reduced by 50% while the ship is closed.
