An 80-year-old woman has been injured after a robbery outside a Dundee convenience store.
Police were called to Albert Street near the Greens of Dundee store at around 12.30pm on Monday.
A male reportedly snatched the pensioner’s handbag before running off towards McGill Street.
It is understood the bag was recovered and medical assistance was provided by a nurse before the arrival of paramedics.
A cordon was put in place near the traffic lights as forensic officers looked at blood on the ground.
Police say they are looking for a white male in his thirties in connection with the incident.
He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans, trainers and was carrying a black and white checked backpack.
One man told The Courier he was “disgusted” after hearing what happened to the elderly woman.
‘A lot of blood of pavement’
He said: “I work nearby and heard a commotion outside and saw the woman lying on the ground.
“There was half a dozen folk around her trying to help. We were told someone snatched or attempted to snatch her bag.
“From what we could see there was a lot of blood on the pavement. Before the paramedics arrived, a nurse was providing assistance.
“I’m disgusted that someone has done this to a woman in their eighties in broad daylight.
“Police were interviewing two people at the scene as the woman was taken to hospital.”
One woman said the pensioner is a regular customer at the Greens of Dundee store.
She said: “She’s in the shop all the time.
“When folk initially went to help I think they thought she’d fallen.
“We were then told a person chased a man to get the bag back after they’d fled along McGill Street.
“It’s just so shocking that this has happened.”
Police Scotland confirmed the pensioner was taken to hospital as they appealed for dash-cam footage.
Detective Sergeant Paul Walker said: “Our inquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.
“We are also appealing to anyone driving in the area at the time who may have dash-cam footage to contact us.”
