Former Lord Provost Bob Duncan was presented with a caricature of himself by a Beano artist to thank him for his time as chair of Dundee Leisure and Culture.
The framed cartoon, drawn by Nigel Parkinson and presented by the Trust, was also a way to mark the official handover to the new chair, Sinclair Aitken.
The artwork shows Lord Provost Bob Duncan in a pose inspired by the Book of Mormon poster, in a nod to his love of musicals and favourite London West End show.
Tangerine and black socks and necktie show his love of Dundee United and a feather duster in the same colours is a reminder of when he starred, Ken Dodd-style, in a Dundee version of the Pharrell Williams song, Happy.
Living all his life in Dundee, there is also reference to ‘Fun-Dee’, ‘Scotland’s Sunshine City’ where he has lived all his life.
Mr Duncan said he was “honoured” to receive the gift and that serving as Lord Provost and chair of Leisure and Culture had been “incredibly rewarding”.
He added: “I have really seen a side of the city that I may not have seen otherwise.
“It is fantastic to see how well Dundee is developing and being able to be a small part of that has been an honour.”
Bob was one of the founding trustees of Leisure and Culture Dundee and was also chair of the board.
He was Lord Provost of the city and an elected member for the SNP within Dundee City Council, served as convener of Leisure, Arts and Communities until the formation of the new organisation and was also chair of Dundee Leisure Trust.
New chair of Leisure and Culture Sinclair Aitken said: “Bob served us with commitment and enthusiasm in his role supporting and promoting leisure and cultural services within the city.
He leaves Leisure and Culture Dundee in a strong and well-respected position. His will be a hard act to follow.”
Craig Graham, managing editor of Beano Studios Scotland added: “Beano is delighted to pay tribute to the outgoing Provost, a fellow Dundonian of renowned good humour and good works. Provost Duncan served this city well for many years, and we wish him every happiness in his retirement.”
