A police investigation has been launched after a woman said she was left with a broken jaw at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Dundee.
The attack was reported to have taken place on Sunday night – just after Lewis Capaldi brought the event at Camperdown Park to a close.
Keris Bennie, from Fife, says the incident happened after she intervened when a man assaulted his partner.
She claims that when she tried to separate the pair, the man turned round and punched her.
The 28-year-old now says she has had a metal plate inserted in her jaw.
‘He took a step back and swung a massive punch’
Speaking to the Daily Record, Keris said: “The guy was being really horrible to his girlfriend – grabbing her, screaming at her and dragging her about.
“She was crying, so I ran over and said, ‘Woah, what’s going on here?’
“He started swearing and shouting at me. I put my hand up to his chest and then he took a step back and swung a massive punch.”
Keris says she is now on a soft food diet for six weeks and may never regain full feeling in her mouth due to nerve damage.
She added: “I didn’t think he would react like that, especially in public.
“I only wanted to help because I thought his girlfriend was in trouble, but I’ve been left with a broken jaw and having to have surgery.
“It makes you think about why some people turn a blind eye to this sort of thing. I don’t regret stepping in, but it has put me off doing it again.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, police received a report of an assault that took place on Sunday at the Big Weekend at Camperdown Park.
“Inquires are at an early stage to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
The Courier revealed earlier this week how police had made four arrests at Big Weekend – including one man accused of child neglect.
