Heavy rain failed to deter voters from casting their ballots in Dundee on Thursday.
Although both the Dundee East and Dundee West constituencies are regarded as safe seats for the SNP, there were plenty of supporters of other parties campaigning outside polling stations.
At Dundee International Sports Complex, around a fifth of eligible voters had cast their ballots by lunchtime.
Unusually, voters from parts of both constituencies can cast their votes in DISC, which is where the count will take place on Thursday night.
One Labour campaigner standing outside the sports centre said: “It’s been quite busy since lunchtime.”
At Fleming Gardens sheltered housing complex in the Dundee West constituency turnout was also said to be steady – and higher than last month’s local government elections.
Arthurstone Library was also busy throughout Thursday morning.
Polling stations in the West End of the city appeared to be on track to hit the average of 66.1% in the previous election.
Perth Road’s Harris Academy was said to be busy up until the rain began to pick up mid-morning.
St Peter’s Free Church, just off Perth Road also had its busiest period between 9am and 11am, with the rush quietening down thereafter until voters finished work.
The surprise general election has led to some primary schools being closed twice in a month so they could be used as polling stations.
This has prompted Strathmartine Labour councillor Kevin Keenan to call for alternative polling stations to be found for future votes.
In a letter to Dundee City Council chief executive David Martin he wrote: “The Strathmartine Ward alone has three primary schools that have been closed twice within just over a month.
“I am sure that you will agree every day lost from classroom lessons is likely to have a detrimental effect.
“If we cannot find alternative polling stations, I wonder whether it would be possible to find a way for the school to remain open whilst part of the building is being used as a polling station, minimising the disruption to lessons.
“Given the political uncertainty and the talk of various referenda for Brexit or Indy2, I would hope that we can find a way that would see our children maximising the school term.
“Given that this City needs to close the attainment gap, I hope a solution can be found so that we can maximise the school term without disruption.”
