A businessman says a break-in at his Broughty Ferry home was “like a paramilitary operation”.
Intruders entered the man’s property on Dundee Road in early hours of Saturday.
The occupier, who asked not to be named, came across three people in his home wearing hoods and masks.
He believes they had weapons and were after the keys to his cars and jewellery.
The man chased the trio away and they are thought to have left in a getaway car.
Man alerted by noise from downstairs
He told The Courier: “The intrusion was like a paramilitary operation.
“I was in my bed and heard a knocking noise but thought it was crows or pigeons on the roof.
“I kept hearing it so walked through my top landing and heard a noise from downstairs.
“There was a male figure downstairs and I screamed at the top of my voice, ‘Get the f*** out of my house’.
“I came leaping down and chased them down my drive.”
The man, who lives with his wife, caught the invaders on his CCTV squeezing through a window they had pried open.
‘They were dressed like ninjas’
He added: “One of them held the window up and the other helped the guy up feet first.
“They came prepared with latex gloves and they tried one of my neighbours’ doors too.
“I saw them carrying a large screwdriver and a knife so it could’ve got nasty.
“There must have been someone waiting for them in a car on Dundee Road.
“I want to appeal for anyone who saw something to come forward – they were dressed like ninjas, somebody must’ve seen them running to a car.”
The man has been left with a couple of hundred pounds’ worth of damage at his home but says he is “lucky” it was not worse.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ” At around 10.35am on Saturday, officers received a report of a break-in at a property on Dundee Road, Broughty Ferry.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
