A coastal runner who has worn through eight pairs of trainers on his 14-month, 5,100-mile-long UK endurance feat arrived in Dundee on Sunday morning.
Simon Clark, set off from his home town Kinloss, Moray, on Easter Sunday 2016 with one goal in mind – to run the coast of the UK to raise money for the world’s most disadvantaged children.
The architect, who has been working from a laptop while running the circumference of mainland Britain, left from Tayport early on Sunday morning and enjoyed what the “wonderful” view of the city crossing over the Tay Road Bridge.
Simon has so far raised just under £14,000 for Ecologia Youth Trust, who help some of the world’s most disadvantaged children in countries including Uganda, Kenya, Russia and Myanmar.
The charity also works with youth groups in Scotland, helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their potential.
Simon regularly “checks in” on Google maps, which has created a map of his run from blue markers.
He said: “I have been able to keep costs down by having people put me up, either friends, or friends of friends, or new friends I’ve met on paths while on my run.
“As well as raising money for Ecologia and children around the world, I wanted to test my endurance, which this run has certainly done.
“On Saturday night, I slept in the open on Tayport beach, but other nights I’ve been put up or slept in the odd hostel.
“Seeing how Dundee shimmered across the water last night was wonderful, there seems to be an awful lot of development work taking place, and the lights from the city were sparkling.
“I’ve run from Edinburgh and up the east coast, through Fife. Fife has one of the best looking and well constructed coastal paths in the whole of the UK, it was stunning.”
Simon’s journey will see him complete the final leg of the tour by travelling along the east coast, through Angus and toward Aberdeen.
From there, he will head for Peterhead and Fraserburgh, before the “final stretch” back along the Moray coast.
