A man’s skull was left visible from a gaping wound after his so-called friend brutally attacked him with a baseball bat.
Ryan Rosscraig mounted the vicious attack on David McMurchie after they fell out following a last-minute change to their dinner plans.
The pair had arranged to meet for dinner and were to meet at Mr McMurchie’s home in Dundee at 6.30pm on August 1 last year.
Shortly after, however, Mr McMurchie’s plans changed and he attempted to contact his friend – only to get no answer.
Instead he took a taxi to Rosscraig’s home in Court Street North.
Depute fiscal Hansa Pertab told Dundee Sheriff Court: “He got the accused on the phone again and asked him what he was doing and was told to mind his own business. An argument then ensued.
“The complainer went into the close and went to the accused’s door and the argument continued through the letterbox which resulted in him kicking the letterbox and turning to walk downstairs.
“At this time the accused located a baseball bat and ran out of the flat with it in hand.
“Mr McMurchie heard footsteps and saw the accused holding the bat.
“He raised the bat and struck him twice on the head.
“He felt dazed and had a large cut on his head and called 999.
“The complainer was treated in the ambulance and taken to Ninewells Hospital where he had lacerations to his scalp.
“One measured seven centimetres and the surface of his skull was visible at the base of the wound.”
Rosscraig, 33, of Court Street North, pled guilty on indictment to a charge of assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Sheriff Tom Hughes deferred sentence until next month and released Rosscraig on bail.
He said: “I have heard a narration of the circumstances that indicate this is a very serious offence.
“The sentence will reflect that.”
