A man jumped from the first floor of a Dundee shopping centre as he attempted to evade police this morning.
He launched himself from the first floor of the Overgate on to the ground floor, nearly landing on a woman who was shopping, as he ran away from police.
He landed outside shoe shop Office. The incident took place at about 10.10am.
Police said they were pursuing two men in an attempt to talk to them about outstanding incidents.
One witness said: “I was speaking to someone when I saw him running on the first floor, then he just launched himself over the banisters.
“He was just inches away from landing on a woman who was shopping on the ground floor. She got such a fright.
“He looked really hurt. He ran out the fire exits with a limp.”
An ambulance was called to the Overgate following the incident.
Overgate manager, Malcolm Angus, said the man was being pursued by police outside the shopping centre when he ran in via the West Gallery.
He said: “This was not a centre incident, he was being pursued by the police externally and came through the centre
“As he entered the West Gallery there were police on the upper mall so in some desperation he vaulted across the balustrade.
“He was then apprehended by police and taken away, as far as we know he didn’t sustain any serious injuries and at this time we do not know what the incident was in relation to, but he is a lucky guy not to at least have broken an ankle or worse.
“Police have reported to Overgate’s CCTV room to request footage of the incident.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Two men who Police Scotland wished to speak to regarding outstanding crimes, were seen in the Overgate Shopping Centre today at 10.10am.
“One of the men sustained a leg injury and the other man has been detained.”
