A Dundee film-maker’s documentary has been selected for the IronStar International Short Film Festival, due to be held at the DCA in August.
Greig Stott, a self-taught film-maker and photographer, will showcase Fast Eddie – a short documentary about Dundee’s well-known street busker who plays the harmonica in the city centre.
The festival takes place at the DCA on Sunday August 6 at 8.30pm.
Greig said: “I have always been interested in buskers and street performers and I always wanted to do something about busking.
“I am also very interested in people, the streets and documentary photography.
“Then I came across Edward Lafferty aka ‘Fast Eddie’ nearly four years ago.
“From then on, I would see him often in Dundee city centre and I always wondered who this man was, what was his story?
“Then, after nearly 18 months of always being intrigued by this person, I finally decided to go up to him and talk to him and discuss potentially chatting to him on camera sometime.
“Eddie – who has been playing the harmonica since he was seven years of age, so nearly 50 years, was very welcoming and happy to talk to me.
“I have found Eddie to be a very friendly and generous man. So, what started out as a general interest in him as a person, a character and street performer – has actually turned into a proper friendship and I can certainly now call him a very good friend.
“I believe we are creating a funny, inspiring, touching and uplifting piece that will hopefully connect and move many people. I am so passionate about this project.”
Fast Eddie was Greig Stott’s first ever entry to a film festival.
He will be competing with the other finalists for a range of awards, including the audience-nominated Best Short category.
