Forecasters have warned that Tayside could be hit by the tail end of Hurricane Gert tomorrow morning.
The storm is currently passing across the Atlantic after coming close to the east coast of the US and Canada, and its aftermath will lead to heavy rain battering Scotland.
Gert has become the seventh named storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season and, at category two, it is the strongest one of the year so far.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain for Grampian, meaning the Mearns and northern parts of Angus could be battered by thunderstorms overnight.
The region may also be affected by flooding on roads and low-lying land.
Angus, Dundee and Perth are also expected to be hit by heavy rain overnight and into Friday morning as the remnants of the hurricane head into the region.
Met Office meteorologist Emma Sharples said: “The warning is not valid until 6am. Rain remains quite slow-moving throughout eastern Scotland on Friday.
“I suspect that the worst time for Tayside and Fife will be the early hours into 9am-10am in the morning, after that the rain pulls away.
“Things improve as we go through the day. There is no warning out for the Dundee area but there will be some heavy pulses of rain coming overnight.”
The weather warning is in force from 6am until 6pm tomorrow.
