It is the annual show that showcases the best in food, horticulture and live entertainment and offers a packed programme including free cookery and gardening demonstrations, children’s activities and a craft fair.
Now with just days to go until the 2017 Dundee Flower and Food Festival at Camperdown Park, hopes are high that it will be one of the best yet.
The three day festival, which runs from Friday September 1 to Sunday September 3, features three guest chefs who will be captivating the audiences with their culinary talents.
Demonstrations will be carried out by 2016 MasterChef winner Gary Maclean, who pursues his passion as a senior lecturer at City of Glasgow College; Nick Nairn, who owns and runs two popular cook schools in Port of Menteith and Aberdeen where he has recently opened his first Pizza Bar; and Leith-born Tony Singh, who is a leading personality in the Scottish restaurant industry.
Children’s TV presenter and actor Andy Day will star in his own family show Andy’s Dino Raps on Sunday while entertainment will also come from street theatre characters Big Rory and Ochie the Dog.
Hardy perennial gardening guru Jim McColl will also be appearing on Saturday.
And of course there will be the usual array of hotly contested cooking and horticultural competitions with over 700 competitive classes.
Peter Sandwell, one of the Dundee City Council organisers, said: “On the gardening side, something new we’ve got this year is the British Begonia ’12 board’ Championships. These are very colourful and will be a big draw. Alongside the world potato and world gladioli championships, we think Dundee is now the biggest competitive horticultural show in Scotland.”
Kevin Cordell convener of Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood services committee said: “Every year we work hard to bring discerning food fans and flower lovers from across Scotland and beyond a programme of cookery and gardening demonstrations, stunning floral displays and inspirational ideas for home and garden.
“This year is no exception and when you consider the great range of quality food and drink produce, with a chance to ‘try before you buy’ at the numerous trade stands along with the craft, food, flowers, Woodlands4Yew marquee and children’s activities, it’s a great day out for everyone.
“The competition flower show is the largest in Scotland with over 100 trophies available to be won, including the Lord Provost’s Trophy and this year the Festival will be hosting the British Begonia 12 Board Championships and the Scottish National Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Show.”
