A new children’s play park is to be built outside the city’s busiest shopping centre.
Dundee City Council has approved plans for the construction of a fenced off activity area at the Overgate, as part of efforts to encourage shoppers back into the town centre.
A slide, tyre-swing, balance beam and stepping stones and a see-saw – all placed on top of a fall-friendly rubber surface – will be installed on land between the multi-story car park and the telephone exchange on Overgate Lane.
Lynne Short convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “This is great news for retailers and shoppers with young children.
“We know that in order to entice people away from only doing their shopping on line, city centres must have added extras that make a trip into town worthwhile.
“So when you can combine shopping with a bit of fun for the kids at a safe, easily accessible play area, what’s not to like.”
