There will be a large police presence around Dens Park tonight as Dundee take on Celtic in the Scottish League Cup quarter final.
The Tayside Police Division has warned supporters of searches at the gates, adding they will “actively seek football banning orders” if anyone commits an offence.
Officers will take a zero-tolerance police on alcohol in the stadium and say anyone trying to enter the stadium drunk will be refused entry.
They have also warned of traffic problems around the stadium this evening.
Chief Inspector Mike Whitford, match commander, said: “We expect to welcome a large crowd to Dens this evening for the match, which kicks off at 7.45pm.
“With this being an evening kick off, I want to remind supporters that it is an offence to try to enter the stadium in possession of alcohol or whilst drunk and this will be strictly enforced by police and stewards on duty.
“We will also enforce legislation in respect of pyrotechnics, and supporters may be searched prior to entering the ground.
“Please remember that as well as being refused entry to the match you may be arrested and, where appropriate offences are detected, we will actively seek football banning orders.
“I know that the majority of fans will bring their families and friends with them to enjoy the football and I would ask you to remember that police officers and stewards will be in and around the football stadium in order that you can watch the match in a safe environment.”
He added: “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and our officers will also be visiting licensed premises before, during and after the match to maintain the safety of patrons, and will ensure that local residents experience as little disruption as possible.
“Please assist us in ensuring this is a fantastic sporting occasion for all.”
Dundee boss Neil McCann said he is confident his side has what it takes to end Celtic’s unbeaten domestic record.
