Police have searched through rubbish at Ninewells Hospital for the clothes of a recently deceased woman.
The 50-year-old was taken to the hospital on Tuesday evening after a suspected fall, but died the next day. The death is being treated as “unexplained”.
Police were seen going through the waste at Ninewells’ waste management facility in a bid to find her clothes, which were removed and disposed of as she received treatment.
Police Scotland would not reveal why they were looking for her clothes, but did say no staff at Ninewells acted inappropriately by throwing out the garments.
An NHS spokesperson said there are a “number of factors” why clothes would be disposed of after removing them from a patient.
Police and ambulance services were called to a flat in Burnside Walk just after 4pm on Tuesday.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, told The Courier she saw a man who also lived in the block being taken away by police on Tuesday evening and he has not been seen since.
A police spokesperson said that no one is in custody in connection with the death.
The neighbour added the victim was known for tripping and falling down the communal stairs and once found her lying at her door “about two weeks ago”.
She said: “My daughter told me that there was someone lying at her door and I didn’t believe her, but when I went to the door she was there. It looked like she had been dragged there.
“She was often falling up and down the stairs in a bad way.”
The door to one flat had signs of forced entry, which another neighbour said they had not noticed prior to Tuesday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland attended an address in Dundee on Tuesday after a 50-year-old woman was found with head injuries.
“She was taken to hospital for treatment, where she sadly died on Wednesday.
“Her death is being treated as unexplained and officers are carrying out inquiries.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 4.20pm on Tuesday to attend an incident at an address on Burnside Walk.
“We dispatched one ambulance and a paramedic response unit to the scene. One female patient in her fifties was taken to Ninewells Hospital.”
