A farming group has donated a prize which sits in another field for a local children’s charity.
Kind-hearted members of the Angus and Kincardine Ferguson Tractor group are to raffle off a bright red 1960 Ferguson Massey tractor for the ARCHIE Tayside Children’s Hospital appeal.
The machine, which has already raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes by completing a number of fundraising challenges including a drive from John O’ Groats to Lands End, could be one lucky winner’s for the price of a £1 ticket.
The group are hoping to sell around 20,000 tickets, the money from which will all go straight to the ARCHIE appeal.
The raffle will run over the course of the year and be drawn next October, with tickets being available at farming shows and ploughing matches, as well as through the group’s Facebook page.
Mike Robertson, chair of Angus and Kincardine Ferguson Tractor group, said despite its age, the unique prize was still in full working order.
He said: “The owner of the tractor, Neil Robertson, unfortunately passed away a few years back and his wife Gail very kindly donated the Ferguson to our group.
“This tractor has so far raised around £40,000 for different groups around the country.
“It has driven great distances as part of charity fundraising, Montrose to Oban was the first one, and then we took it down from John O’ Groats to Lands End in 30 mile sections.
“Raffling it off now for ARCHIE is the big finale. We are hoping to sell around 20,000 tickets, at £1 each.
“People will be able to buy them from us over the next year at farming shows and events and ploughing matches. The tractor will tour with the group at these events over the next year.
“The tractor, a 1960 Ferguson Massey, is the best model of its kind and is seen as something of a collectable.
“What’s more is that we can still get spare parts for it, so it will be able to run for years to come.”
The ARCHIE appeal is looking to raise money for twin operating theatres at the Tayside Children’s Hospital at Ninewells.
The tractor raffle will run until October next year.
