Dundee East MSP Shona Robison has praised the “excellent work” being done at Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Resource Centre in Dundee.
Ms Robison, the health secretary, met staff, volunteers and people with dementia and also viewed the centre’s recently opened sensory garden.
There was also the chance to meet Uno, one of Alzheimer Scotland’s dementia assistance dogs.
Ms Robison said: “Alzheimer Scotland carry out great work within our communities and allow people living with dementia to continue to live as independently as possible.
“The new sensory garden here in Dundee is an excellent example of that. It provides people, along with their families, with a safe space and allows them to enjoy a relaxing outdoor environment.”
“Thank you to everyone at the Dundee Dementia Resource Centre for welcoming me and showing me the excellent work done.”
Ms Robison is a long-time supporter of the centre in Morgan Street, having attended its opening in 2010.
Centre manager Brenda Stewart said: “We were all thrilled to welcome Shona Robinson MSP back to hear how we have developed the centre into the hub that it is today.
“We are immensely proud of all that we have achieved since opening in 2010 to support people living with dementia and their families. We continue to develop and improve the services and activities which we provide in and around the resource centre and have recently recruited a volunteer coordinator to further develop our fantastic volunteers in the area.
“Shona was also offered a tour of our fantastic new sensory garden which is being used to enhance our day care sessions by offering a safe place for people with dementia to enjoy a relaxing outdoor space.”
