Abertay University and two Dundee software companies won top prizes at the TIGA Awards ceremony at the V&A in London this week.
TIGA is the trade organisation for the video games industry and its annual awards are one of the most prestigious video game competitions in the country.
Dundee studio Outplay Entertainment Ltd won the Best Strategy Game award for its castle defence game Castle Creeds, which is available on iPhone and Apple devices.
Fellow Dundee studio Denki won the prize for best educational game for its title Autonauts, a world-building game in which the user creates robots they can use to build and animate a virtual world.
Abertay University won the award for best education initiative and talent development.
Professor Gregor White, head of Abertay’s School of Design and Informatics, formerly Arts, Media and Computer Games, said: “We are delighted to win the TIGA award for Educational Initiative and Talent Development.
“This award is particularly special coming as we celebrate 20 years since launching the world’s first degrees in computer games.
“Dundee, Scotland and, indeed, the whole of the UK has incredible strength in its creative industries and having top class academic teaching and learning is right at the heart of that success.
“In an industry such as games, where the market is constantly shifting, Abertay’s ability to react and adapt while maintaining the highest standards has ensured our graduates leave with the best possible education and are fully prepared to work – be that within an existing company or starting their own business.”
2017 marks 20 years since Abertay first began offering degrees in game design.
The university has run a series of events to celebrate and they will conclude on November 25 with a discussion on the future of gaming. Places can be booked online.
Manchester games developer Playdemic scooped the prestigious Game Of The Year title for their title Golf Clash.
The public vote for the TIGA Game of the Year Award received nearly 97,000 individual votes.
TIGA chief executive Dr Richard Wilson said: “Congratulations to all winners.
