The tree, adorned with various types of trainers, stands beside the skate area in Dudhope Park. Logan McKinlay, 10, checking out the unusual tree. It was “decorated” with footwear by skateboarders who have seen similar fixtures in other cities around the world. Rick Curran, chairman of Friends of Dudhope Park, who is also a skater, said: “It’s just a spontaneous thing. “It’s not an official initiative by Friends of Dudhope Park or any other community organisation, it’s something that the skaters have done themselves. “They just tie the laces together and chuck the shoes on to the branches. “It’s been done in skate parks in Edinburgh and many other cities around the world. We’re not quite sure how or why it started.” Dudhope Park also became a target for fans of the bizarre during the summer when a giant emoji appeared on the grass.
