Four indoor football pitches at a Dundee soccer centre could make way for the city’s first ever trampoline park, if plans are approved by councillors.
The city council’s development management committee will meet on Monday night to discuss proposals submitted by international trampoline company Ryze for Old Glamis Road.
It comes after similar plans were rejected by the council in August, sparking a public backlash.
Council planning officers have recommended the park is approved, subject to a number of conditions.
The site is currently occupied by Soccer World, an indoor football centre which has eight artificial pitches.
Under the scheme, four of the current pitches would be removed and replaced with the trampoline centre, providing gymnastics facilities for the city.
The council has said the loss of the pitches would be no “significant” loss.
According to the owners of Soccer World, there has been a year-on-year decline in use of the facility since it opened.
This is partyy due to the improvement of council sporting facilities and the new, charity based pitches currently in use at Manhattan Works.
RDA Architects, who submitted the proposals on behalf of Ryze, said the introduction of a trampoline park could potentially inspire future generations of Olympic gymnasts.
In a statement, RDA said the nature and uniqueness of the business meant approval could have a positive boost for the Dundee, Tayside and North East economies.
The nearest similar facility is in Edinburgh.
It is understood the development could bring up to 50 jobs to the city.
Council administration leader John Alexander was forced to defend the decision not to approve original plans to build the Ryze park in the Claverhouse industrial estate earlier in the year.
At the time he said councillors had not had a say in the decision because the matter had failed to meet the development plan before coming in front of the development management committee.
