Residents expressed their concerns after police were seen outside a family home in Broughty Ferry for much of Thursday.
Locals in Strathyre Avenue, off the main A92 Arbroath Road, said three police cars and a police van were stationed outside a house. The van remained there overnight.
One resident told The Courier: “It’s highly unusual to see this level of police activity in the area. It’s normally very quiet.”
Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “A 41-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fire at Strathearn Road, Dundee, yesterday.
“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal and he is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday November 27.”
