Celtic star Leigh Griffiths is to stand trial accused of speeding on the Kingsway in Dundee just days before his sensational World Cup qualifier double against England.
The Hoops star is alleged to have been driving his four-litre, 469 horsepower, Mercedes AMG C63 at 62mph on Kingsway on June 3 this year. The speed limit on the road is 50mph.
The case against Griffiths called at Dundee Justice of the Peace Court on Tuesday.
Griffiths was not present in court. His lawyers had written to the court entering a plea of not guilty on his behalf.
JP Frank Buchan set a trial date in late February 2018 and ordered Griffiths to appear in person at a pre-trial hearing earlier that month.
The charge against Griffiths alleges that on June 3 this year at Kingsway West, near the Myrekirk roundabout, he drove at 62mph in a 50mph zone.
Just seven days later Griffiths netted two stunning free kicks to put Scotland into a late lead against England at Hampden.
But a Harry Kane strike deep into injury time meant the game finished 2-2.
