Parked car a ‘write off’ following four-car smash on ‘nightmare’ Clepington Road

The collision on Clepington Road.
The collision on Clepington Road.

A parked car was so badly damaged during a smash on one of Dundee’s busiest roads yesterday morning that its owner fears it to be a total write-off.

Two vehicles crashed on Clepington Road just after 8am on Friday morning, with a red Corsa involved sent careering into two parked cars.

Nobody was injured during the incident, which happened near the junction with Arklay Street, however there were long tailbacks on the route.

The cars involved were a red Corsa, a grey Fiat Punto and a black Ford Fiesta. The make and model of the fourth vehicle is unknown.

And the owner of the Fiesta involved in the crash fears her car to be a write-off.

The mother-of-one said the first she knew about the collision was when police knocked on her door at 9.15am.

She added: “They said that the car had been involved in an accident. I didn’t actually see it. I didn’t realise how bad it was until I went out and checked the car. I was really gutted actually to see it. It is a great wee car.

“It is the worst timing really. I have just had a baby who is three months old now and obviously Christmas is coming up. It is not ideal timing at all.

“Because of the car’s age, it is 12 years old and so many different parts are damaged, I expect the value of the parts will be more than the value of the car. They are sending me a courtesy car.

“It is a very busy road, but you don’t expect this when your car is parked up.”

Maryfield Labour councillor Georgia Cruikshank said the section of Clepington Road between the Forfar Road junction and the roundabout leading to Old Glamis Road was a “nightmare” for local residents.

Ms Cruickshank said: “That stretch from Forfar Road up to Old Glamis Road is a complete nightmare. I avoid it as best I can, there are usually cars parked on both sides of the road.

“My sympathy is with whoever had their cars damaged and the people involved in the crash. People expect to be able to park their cars outside their houses and that it will be safe.

“People avoid the Kingsway and use Clepington Road, which is a bit silly.

“It certainly needs to be looked at. You see how wide the pavements are coming from the Forfar Road. Maybe the road could be made wider so people could park in a wee bit, like on Balunie Avenue.”

A police spokesman said: “We had a two vehicle road traffic collision, another two parked cars were hit as a result. There were no injuries. We got the call at 8.30am.”

Nobody has been charged following the crash.

On August 8 this year a silver Mercedes crashed into a parked blue Renault and several other vehicles on Clepington Road between 8pm and 9pm. The road had to be closed as the incident was dealt with.

And on neighbouring Moncur Crescent on August 20, student Ashley Benvie’s Volkswagen Tiguan was written-off while she slept after a motorcyclist smashed into it.

She told The Courier she had been left £1,600 out of pocket by the accident, as the LexMoto XTR 125 was not insured.
