More than 1,000 people have signed a petition urging Dundee City Council to rethink plans for a five-storey office block to be built opposite the V&A.
Although plans for the office and retail development have always been part of the overall plan for the Waterfront, images of the proposed developed caused a furore when they were released last week.
The online petition set up by Charlie Stewart claims the block will “ruin” the entire £1 billion waterfront redevelopment.
It states: “This will block the view of the river, overshadow the new V&A, block in the new Slessor gardens and ruin the whole feel of the redevelopment of the waterfront, especially as there are an array of empty office blocks in and around our city.”
Hundreds of people posted comments online criticising the decision to allow the block to be built.
Work to build the £15.5m office block is due to begin in January.
It will include offices, commercial units, a service yard and dedicated parking.
Councillors will be asked to approve the appointment of a contractor to build on the land when they meet tonight.
The building is due to be completed in February 2019.
However, SNP councillor and city development convener Lynne Short has said the development is key to reconnecting Dundee city centre with the waterfront and that new businesses may be attracted to Dundee because of it.
Leading architects have also said they do not believe the office block will detract from the V&A.
Councillors approved plans in June.
