Young footballers watched in horror after a player suffered a fractured skill while playing in a friendly match in Dundee.
Coupar Angus Juniors Under 19s were playing Boys and Girls’ Clubs Scotland under 19s in a friendly match at Dundee United’s GA Arena, formerly known as Gussie Park, on Tuesday when the player suffered the sickening injury.
It is not known if he sustained the injury in a collision with another player or by striking his head on the ground after a fall.
Team-mates and opposition players watched as he received treatment on the pitch.
After being given first-aid by a coach he was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital.
A spokeswoman for Boys and Girls’ Clubs Scotland said: “He is in hospital until Friday.
“A coach was there who was trained in first aid and he treated him before he was taken to hospital.”
She said the player’s team-mates were also recovering after witnessing the accident.
“Everyone is doing well,” she said.
Coupar Angus JFC declined to comment.
Boys and Girls’ Clubs Scotland is a charity that promotes sport amongst eight to 18-years-olds.
A number of football clubs are affiliated to the charity.
