Dundee police have released CCTV images of four men they are seeking following a hit and run in the city.
John Ogston, 67, was found in a “serious” condition at the junction of Mains Road and Bayne Square in the Hilltown area at around 11pm on Hogmanay.
A woman had been escorting the father-of-two home after leaving the Bowbridge Bar on Mains Road when he fell.
Mr Ogston was not hurt in the fall but was helped a further 100 yards down Mains Road by his companion, who then left him for a matter of minutes while she ran to fetch his daughter at her home in nearby Bayne Square.
It was during this time that police believe he was crushed by a vehicle, which then drove off.
The four men sought are not said to have been involved in the collision which led to Mr Ogston’s death “in any way”, but officers investigating Mr Ogston’s death believe they could have valuable information.
They came to his aid after the father-of-two became injured and police think they may have information on the vehicle which struck him.
A police statement said: “Police Scotland have released CCTV images of four men we would like to trace regarding our investigation into the death of John Ogston, who was found seriously injured in Mains Road, Dundee, just after 11pm on New Year’s Day.
“We believe that John was involved in a collision with a motor vehicle whereby he sustained his injuries that sadly caused his death. The vehicle involved has not yet been identified.
“The four men in the photographs are not believed to be involved in any way but are key witnesses who stopped and helped John when he was injured. They may have some knowledge of the vehicle that collided with John.
“We appreciate that the images are not of the greatest quality, but we hope that a member of this group may see these images and recognise themselves. It is possible that the males are Asian or Eastern European.
“If this is you, or you think you know anyone who it could be, please contact us. There is nothing to fear and I would stress these men are witnesses. John’s family are needing answers as to what happened to him, and you may be able to provide us with the vital information that could help put their minds at rest.
“If you have any relevant information, please call 101 or speak to any Police officer. Also, information can be given anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is CR/126/18.”
