An armed robber has escaped with cash in a “frightening” knife-point raid on a Dundee newsagent’s shop.

At around 8.15pm last night (Friday), a man entered Blackness News on Blackness Road, presented a knife at the shop assistant and stole a quantity of money before making off.

The male was last seen running into Rosefield Place before being lost to sight.

Police Scotland are appealing for information from members of the public regarding the robbery.

Police enquiries have shown that the man was standing  at the junction of Blackness Road and Blackness Street for a “significant period” before committing the robbery.

The person responsible  is described as a black male, of slim build, 5 foot 11 inches tall, aged 25 – 30 years old with facial hair.

He was wearing a navy parka style jacket with a fur rimmed hood,  black tracksuit bottoms, black training shoes and black gloves.

Detective Constable Andrew Howe said: “This was a very frightening experience for the shopkeeper, although  gladly he has not been injured as a result of the male’s actions.

“I am appealing for anybody within the community who has any information about this crime or knows the identity of the male to contact the police straight away.”

If anybody recognises the male or has observed the male in the area before or after the crime or knows anything about this crime then police would like to speak to them as a matter of urgency.

They can contact police on 101 or speak to any officer .

If  they want to remain anonymous but have information that they want to supply,  they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
