As designer of the V&A on the city’s waterfront, Kengo Kuma’s influence on Dundee is already huge. But now the Japanese architect has become the subject of a public work art in the city himself. A black and white graffiti portrait of Kengo Kuma has now appeared on the wall near Seabraes. It was created by Dundee graffiti artist SYKE. SYKE, whose real name is Symon Mathieson, said: “He has designed a stunning building for our city. “This is just a little way of saying thanks.” The photograph was taken by Mhari McDonald, who sent it to the the V&A. Kengo Kuma visited Dundee last week to inspect the completed V&A building, which cost £80.1 million to build.
