More than 350 primary school children launched Dundee’s Year of the Young People programme in a riot of noise in City Square today.
Young samba drummers and dancers brought a vibrant atmosphere to the town centre to showcase the activities taking place across the coming months.
Jack Brady, chair of Dundee Youth Council (DYC), said: “As a young person, I am exhilarated at what is to come, nationwide and especially here in my home city of Dundee.
“I see this as an inspiration for young people to express themselves fully with confidence and be the person they truly want to be. The DYC, the project I volunteer with and chair, aims to get as many young people involved with the decisions that affect them and to make sure all young people’s voices are heard loudly.
“During 2018, we will speak to as many young people as possible and hear about how they feel about being a young person, and what they think about our city.”
SNP Councillor Bill Campbell, council spokesman for children and young persons, said: “We hope that the year will open up new opportunities for them to shine locally, nationally and globally.”
