Kind-hearted local shops have donated more than 100 Easter eggs to Dundee’s less fortunate.
The treats were donated from Tesco stores across the city before being handed in to community groups run by Bethany Christian Trust, which tackles homelessness, on Tuesday.
A total of 115 Easter eggs were dropped off at the The Connect Cafe located in Menzieshill Parish Church and the drop-in cafe at Gilfillan Memorial Church.
The charity said the donations will be handed out to locals who would otherwise be unable to afford eggs for their families.
Tesco branches in Nethergate, Hawkhill, Strathmartine and Broughty Ferry donated chocolate treats ahead of the Easter holidays.
Community development worker at Bethany Christian Trust Iain Wilson said: “Since receiving food from Tesco Nethergate and Tesco Metro that otherwise would be thrown out, we have been able to help regularly feed a considerable number of people in Dundee who are struggling to make ends meet, and help reduce food waste.
“It’s worth celebrating the great work that Tesco and Fareshare are doing to help so many people and stop good food from going to waste.
“It’s not simply the food we are receiving from Tesco; it’s been so encouraging to see how excited the staff have been over knowing the food is going to help people. They have gone the extra mile.”
Bethany Christian Trust has been partnered with local Tescos since last year, receiving food donations which are passed on to locals at community cafes. The charity works with thousands of homeless Scots ever year.
The Connect Cafe is a partnership between Menziehill Parish Church, Crossreach and the trust, and is supported by the NHS Tayside Community Innovation Fund.
