An IT issue caused Dundee City Council to inadvertently send out a string of automatic replies to residents on Thursday night.
Locals have been told to disregard the messages, which were sent in response to “old and existing e-mails” at about 8pm.
One local woman told The Courier that her mother had received 13 automatic reply e-mails in relation to everything from council tax to rent.
The local authority took to Twitter this morning to reassure Dundee residents.
A spokeswoman for the council said the issue has now been resolved and added: “There was a problem with the planned upgrade of our email system last night which resulted in auto-reply messages being sent out for old and existing emails.
“If anyone has any of these auto-reply messages in their email account please simply delete them.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
