A mystery wire spotted in a Dundee road has been left exposed to the elements for days after council workers bungled efforts to conceal it.
The orange wire was first discovered on Fort Street in Broughty Ferry by a member of the public on Wednesday who was concerned it could be a danger.
Dundee City Council said it had been made aware of the issue and sent workers to cover a section of the wire, which was within a pothole on the railway bridge.
Councillor Craig Duncan, who said he was told of the unusual find by a member of the public on the same day, said he received further calls from residents after it was reportedly covered.
He said: “It’s a bit of mystery really.
“I reported it on Wednesday and, to be fair to the Roads Maintenance Partnership, they came out and covered it up very quickly.
“What’s happened though, is that there is another section further up the road which they have failed to notice.
“On Friday early evening, the wire was still visible. I have reported it again and asked the partnership to come and fix it as a matter of urgency.”
A spokesperson for Dundee City Council initially said the matter had been resolved but upon hearing the cable was still exposed, said: “We are aware of the situation and will be taking the appropriate action.”
Mr Duncan added that the laying of the cable could not have been carried out correctly when it was first inserted.
He said: “It is obviously far too close to the surface.
“I don’t know what it is for but I think common sense tells you it shouldn’t be visible like that.
“We are coming out of winter now and there are a lot of pot holes.
“It’s maybe just another element of the effect of the weather.”
