As the heatwave continues to bake many parts of the UK, zookeepers at Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee are giving treats to the resident European brown bears.
Other animals are also getting in on the action and enjoying frozen fruit, water sprays and misting sessions to keep them cool.
The three resident European brown bears, Brum, Brumma and Maja, particularly enjoyed a hand made 80kg ice lolly.
The frozen delicacy was made over several days in a large freezer with sugar free fruit juice layered with watermelon, carrots, apples, grapes, plums and a variety of whole nuts. It was then hung from one of the bears’ climbing poles.
In the wild, bears will often climb trees to hunt for small food pieces like insects and fruits so this exercise allows the bears to use all of their muscles that were designed for tree climbing and foraging.
