A search after a beacon was set off in the Tay has stood down.
A helicopter was dispatched from Inverness to assist Arbroath and Broughty Ferry RNLIs after a beacon was set off in the Tay earlier this afternoon.
Coastguards from St Andrews and Carnoustie also assisted the search after an emergency position-indicating radiobeacon station (Epirbs) was activated in the waters.
But the search has ceased after the services “exhausted”
A HM Coastguard said: “All remaining boats are coming back as the search is now complete
“It appears to be a false alarm. As far as we can tell the beacon is no longer detected in the area and the search has been exhausted.”
The helicopter was brought in because of the size of the area involved in the search, which was from Barry Buddon to near Dundee Airport.
Police Scotland and Fire and Rescue Scotland also assisted in the search.
