A man was caught with his trousers down desecrating a historic Dundee cemetery on Friday afternoon.
One local was left “disgusted” after spotting the individual defecating beside a bin at the Barrack Street entrance to the burial ground, right in front of a large memorial structure, at about 2pm.
After being seen the man, who was wearing a hooded jacket and jeans, quickly made off.
A man who witnessed the incident said: “I was walking into the Howff from the entrance nearest the Overgate and the first thing I saw was a man squatting down next to one of the bins for all the world to see.
“There was plenty of people around, sitting on the benches and so on, anyone could have seen what he was up to.
“As soon as I appeared he pulled up his trousers and ran off out the entrance. I was absolutely disgusted.
“The Overgate toilets are only a one minute walk away. I’m just glad it wasn’t a family that came across him.”
North-east Conservative MSP Bill Bowman said “there is no excuse” for the behaviour.
He added: “The Howff is one of the few parts of historic Dundee left for us to enjoy.
“It is a place of reflection and is rightly highlighted for visitors to come and see.
“Imagine what a tourist would think on witnessing such disgusting behaviour.
“The memories of the departed deserve more respect.
“There are toilets all around the city centre.”
The image, which emerged in October 2016, provoked fury among city residents.
The Howff is popular with both visitors to the city and locals.
