Coaching in the fine art of heavy metal singing will be among the activities on offer when a new community based music school hosts its next free open weekend in September.
The Dundee Music Academy, which opened to the public earlier this year, will run its second taster session on September 8-9.
Lessons will be given on instruments including electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar, piano and keyboard, saxophone and drums.
Singing lessons and the more unusual option of heavy metal music vocal coaching will also be provided.
More than 150 people from across the city took part in the last session in June.
Music Academy director David Gourlay said it was a fantastic response and he was expecting just as much interest this time around.
David, who spent years teaching music in Spain, said there were plans for the tutors to take part in a schools tour in the near future.
“Our last event in June was a great success all round,” he said.
“More than 150 people came down to the studios over the two days.
“One of our main objectives is to show that music and learning to play an instrument is for everyone.
“We get that not everyone can afford £25 per individual lesson, so we provide alternative teaching methods for people to try.”
Activities include group lessons, taster sessions and online instructional videos on Facebook and YouTube.
David added: “Our heavy metal music style tuition is probably one of the more ‘out there’ classes we offer.
“Instructor Sam Fields is incredibly good at what he does.
“It is important people who want to sing in a heavy metal style know how to do it properly, as you can imagine if it is done incorrectly it can put a lot of strain on the vocal chords.
“It wasn’t as popular as some of the classes last time, but there are plenty of heavy metal bands in the area, so I think interest in it will pick up.”
The open weekend will start at 10am and run until 5pm on Saturday and Sunday at DM Studios on Blinshall Street.
