Fire crews attended a blaze in one of Dundee’s most distinctive buildings.
Emergency services were called to Morgan Tower Pharmacy on Nethergate just after 3pm on Tuesday.
Scottish Fire and Rescue said four appliances had been sent to the scene and that “multiple rescues” had been carried out using the aerial ladder.
One man was lifted to the ground and then walked to a waiting ambulance by a paramedic.
Several police cars were also in attendance.
The building, originally known as Morgan Tower, dates from 1794.
Thick smoke could be seen coming from a stairwell at the rear of the building.
Police sealed off Nethergate to traffic and pedestrians to allow fire crews to carry out their work.
Crowds of onlookers gathered in the afternoon sun to watch the rescue unfold.
One eyewitness said: “I saw someone being carried from a window by fire fighters and down a ladder.
“It seemed quite serious.”
A fire service spokesperson said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.06pm on Tuesday to a fire within flats near Nethergate, Dundee.
“Operations control immediately mobilised a number of fire engines, including an aerial appliance and firefighters extinguished the flames.
“A total of five people were assisted to safety by firefighters before being handed into the care of paramedics.
“Crews currently remain in attendance as they work to make the area safe.”
