A residential area was put on lock-down after a suspected bomb was discovered in a flat in Dundee.
A man was arrested after police discovered the device at a flat in Carlochie Place at around noon.
Around six police vehicles, as well as fire crews and ambulance incident response teams, were on the scene before bomb disposal experts arrived at around 1pm.
The presence centred on a flat in the south-eastern section of Carlochie Place, close to Broughty Ferry Road.
Several CID officers were also seen in attendance throughout the afternoon on Greendykes Road, the entirety of which was shut off.
Police stressed there was no risk to the public but properties in the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a precaution, with half a dozen streets cordoned to prevent public access.
Residents of surrounding streets were initially left bewildered by the emergency response.
George Muir, who lives on Noran Avenue, just one street away from Carlochie Place, said: “I hadn’t a clue what was going on.
“It’s totally bizarre to see all this. My neighbour was the first to tell me. She said we’re all blocked in.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. At first, I thought it was all closed because a large vehicle was due to come through.”
Another resident on the lower half of Greendykes Road said: “I work from home and there are usually loads of cars up and down this street.
“I thought it seemed a bit quiet so I looked out the window and saw the police tape.
“I didn’t think too much of it but then I came out the front to have a look and saw all the cars. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
Parents living within the cordon were also faced with the stress of being unable to collect children from the nearby Craigiebarns Primary School.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm whilst searching a property at Carlochie Place in Dundee a device has been discovered.
“A man has been arrested and inquiries continuing.”
