About 100 Dundee workers are set to deliver the first payments under Scotland’s new welfare system today.
The carer’s allowance supplement will be paid into accounts as the country’s social security system goes live six months earlier than planned.
The benefit, which is being administered from the Social Security Agency’s headquarters in Dundee, increases allowance for carers by more than £400 a year.
There are about 100 civil servants working to deliver benefit and respond to client queries, the Scottish Government said.
Shirley-Anne Somerville, the Social Security Secretary, said: “Making these payments will represent a historic moment, launching a new public service that will deliver a social security system that treats people with dignity, fairness and respect.”
