Dundee Howff Conservation Group chairman Simon Goulding had raised concerns the wall could be damaged if the paint was not removed in the correct manner.
However, the wall has now been returned to its original state with little trace of the orange paint which had defaced it.
It was initially feared the ‘tagged’ section of the wall could be over 400 years old but it has been confirmed the area affected was installed in the early 1800s after strengthening work.
Mr Goulding said: “As far as conservation is concerned, everything looks good. We are very happy with how quickly it has been sorted.
“Luckily it’s not the ancient part of the wall. At some point, the wall was strengthened on the outside and newer bricks were built in.
“This is the part that was vandalised. The inner wall, the part inside the actual cemetery dating from around the 16th century, has not been touched.
“The cleaning job has been done well and there doesn’t seem to be any lasting damage.”
