McManus Galleries has aped Banksy and shredded a painting in its Beano exhibition.
The Minnie Lisa, a spoof of Leonadro da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, was installed at the museum as part of an exhibition celebrating 80 years of The Beano.
It features Minnie the Minx as the mysterious model in an exhibition which is already the most popular show the museum has ever mounted and the most popular comic book show in the UK.
In a move inspired by elusive graffiti-artist Banksy, half of the painting has been shredded.
The bottom half is now sitting outside of the frame, torn into strips.
Banksy made headlines earlier this month when his Balloon Girl piece was shredded directly after an auction where it went for more than £1 million.
The altered piece was renamed ‘Love is in the Bin’ and is said to be worth even more money now.
McManus Galleries is also offering the chance for people to see themselves immortalised as a Beano character by taking a selfie at the exhibition and posting it on social media with #McMenace before October 21, when the exhibition ends.
