A Dundonian’s “man cave” is in the running to win the UK’s Games Room of the Year award.

Dundee United fan Steve Keillor designed a unique hang-out spot, featuring a huge collection of baseballs, golf balls and vintage posters and signs from around the world.

The room features a multi-functional table which, as well as its standard use, can also be utilised for pool and ping-pong.

The living space is kitted out with a vintage TV including all the most popular sports channels as well as what he describes as the “most vital” feature — a fully stocked bar.

The tangerine-based colour scheme is inspired by his beloved Tannadice team with all the painting, decorating and installations completed himself.

His conversionhas made it to the top 10 of the competition, organised by Home Leisure Direct with pubic voting now open to crown an overall winner.

The 50-year-old married father of two described the conversion as a “big project”.

Painter and decorator Steve said: “I’ve been adding bits and bobs to it for quite a few years just whenever I get gifts or other items.

“My wife and I use it in the summer as it’s such a sun trap but other than that we mainly use it for parties. I have friends round to watch games too.

“The room has brilliant noise insulation so you can’t hear a thing from outside.

“We use it for lots of family gatherings and birthdays as well.”

The room contains quirky features such as beer bucket light shades, alcohol-related signs and slogans, as well as plenty of seating for guests.

Steve said he entered the competition after seeing an entry last year by Brechin man Graeme Strachan, who transformed his loft into a shrine to Aberdeen Football Club.

Steve added: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I’d made the top 10.

“I was blown away. I decided to enter after reading The Courier last year and seeing the conversion in Brechin.

“You see quite a few on Facebook that are amazing so I didn’t know how well I’d do.

“I thought there’s always a chance I could do well but it’s really taken me by surprise.”

Voting closes on Sunday November 4 through https://www.homeleisuredirect.com/games-room-vote/
