One of Scotland’s oldest open water swimming clubs will celebrate its 135th birthday with a special calendar.
Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association (YeAABA) will release an anniversary memento featuring images from the organisation’s long and healthy history.
The swimming club hosts a number of events throughout the year, the most popular one being the New Year’s Day Dook.
The Dook sees hundreds of hardy souls brave the depths of Broughty Ferry Harbour the morning after Hogmanay, with thousands more joining in to watch, all in the name of charity.
Next year’s Dook will hold a special significance, marking 135 years since YeAABA first took to the water.
Life president Joyce McIntosh has been organising where the calendars are to go on sale.
Mrs McIntosh said the club plans on selling the date-brochures from a special stall in the Ferry next month, if all goes well at an upcoming meeting of the council’s licensing committee.
The calendars, which feature an illustration penned by Mrs McIntosh’s late husband, will also be available to pick up from the Broughty Ferry library – which also celebrated a special anniversary this year.
Photos of a by-gone age and more recent events will fill the date-book’s pages.
She said: “We are celebrating on 135 years of the club this coming New Years Day.
“We have put together a celebratory calendar with images throughout the years and history on the back page.
“We are hoping to reach out to all past members and ask them to get in touch and support this fundraiser.
“The image on the front was drawn by late husband who was an architect and had a wonderful drawing hand.
“We are very proud as an organisation to have kept going all these years with our unique type of open water swimming and the contribution we have made to the community, especially with the New Year Day Dook.”
As well as the Dook, YeAABA put on a number of races and swimming sessions, – including the Tayport Cup, the Balmerino and other harbour relay events.
Former members are also being invited to get in touch with the association to share their memories.
If the club are awarded a street traders license, they plan on opening their stall between Scott Brothers butchers and Boots and the M&S Food store between 10am – 3pm on Saturday November 11.
