Pair behind terrifying armed raid on elderly Broughty Ferry couple still on the loose

Frances Youngs was the victim of the robbery.
Frances Youngs was the victim of the robbery.

The two men behind a terrifying armed robbery on a Broughty Ferry home earlier this week are still on the loose, say police.

Burberry-clad thieves terrorised Frances and Phillip Youngs, both of whom are in their 70s, in their Strathtyre Avenue house at about 7.20pm on Wednesday.

They threatened the couple with a weapon, believed to be a knife, before stealing cash and jewellery.

The thieves, both of whom covered their faces with distinctive Burberry scarves, then stole a black Vauxhall Corsa from the driveway of the house and made their escape.

It is understood the vehicle belonged to the carer of the couple’s adult daughter, who is disabled.

Residents of Ferryfields were told to “lock their doors” by police following the incident.

Police issued a fresh appeal for information on Friday morning, saying they are still looking to track down the two men and the stolen Corsa.

The vehicle was last seen on the A92 Dundee to Arbroath road’s junction with Balgillo Road East shortly after the incident.

The force has also warned members of the public against “naming individuals who they believe responsible” on social media.

Detective Inspector Gavin McKinlay said: “Our inquiries are continuing into the robbery and we are still looking to trace two men and the outstanding black Vauxhall Corsa registration mark SG13 ZLZ.

“The Corsa was seen at the roundabout at the junction of the A92 and Balgillo Road East in Dundee shortly after the robbery. We are expanding our door to door inquiries and officers are still continuing to review CCTV.

“We are also aware of social media posts being circulated by the public yesterday naming individuals who they believe responsible for the robbery, we would ask that people DO NOT speculate on names or the incident itself. This is not helpful to the investigation.

“I would like to take the time to thank members of the public who have come forward so far and assisted with the investigation.

“If you have any relevant information that would think would be helpful to detectives, please get in touch with Police Scotland on 101, quoting CR/27950.”
