A Dundee police dog has been hailed for tracking down an alleged drink-driver – with only the scent from an abandoned car.
Wade the police dog (PD) and handler PC Graeme Hunter were called in following reports a car had crashed into traffic lights on Riverside Drive, near Barnetts Motor Group, at about 1am on Wednesday.
The damaged vehicle was later found abandoned on nearby Roseangle.
PD Wade picked up a scent from the car and managed to follow it all the way to Taylor’s Lane.
On arrival, a man was charged with drink-driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
He has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Police Scotland statement on the incident read: “Officers who responded found the car locked and secured in a car park, but thanks to the good work of PD Wade and his handler PC Graeme Hunter, he was tracked straight to his front door.
“After taking a breath test, he was charged with drunk driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
“The case is now in the hands of the Procurator Fiscal”.
