Scots acoustic sensation Gerry Cinnamon is playing a sold-out gig in Dundee on Thursday night – and excitement for the show is growing.
The Glaswegian singer-songwriter’s popularity has peaked in 2018 with his honest, street-wise lyrics – sung with a strong local accent – winning over an army of devout fans.
We took a look at Cinnamon’s remarkable road to success ahead of his Dundee show….
2018 has been an incredible year for him
The Castlemilk man has had an incredible year after playing to a massive crowd in his home city at TRNSMT in July, where he took to the Main Stage ahead of Liam Gallagher.
The gig at Dundee’s Caird Hall on Thursday, which sold out in a matter of seconds, will launch his sell-out Scottish tour.
Cinnamon will be playing four Glasgow shows in the coming weeks – two in the legendary Barrowland Ballroom and two at the O2 Academy. Tickets for the gigs were scooped up in just three minutes.
His gigs at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom and Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall sold out at a similarly rapid rate.
He’ll also take to the stage at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.
He’s not just big in Scotland…
Cinnamon’s popularity isn’t limited to Scotland. He will be embarking on an equally popular run of shows across the rest of the UK and Ireland in 2019.
He’s playing sold-out shows in Belfast, Dublin, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Amsterdam in 2019.

A self-made man
Cinnamon’s stripped back gigs have won over audiences. He plays without a band to back him up, armed with an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal.
What’s more, the musician appears to have become one of the most popular acts in the UK without much in the way of support from the music industry itself – getting where is almost entirely due to word of mouth and social media.
Just this week Cinnamon’s track Sometimes was named one of the best songs of 2018 by Radio X, where it took pride of place on the list next to hits from Arctic Monkeys, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown, Johnny Marr, Muse, and Florence and the Machine.
He’s been touring for years
He has been touring for years, having previously been a member of band The Cinnamons.
In 2015 Cinnamon played T in the Park for the first time, returning in 2016 to take to the King Tut’s Wah Wah Tent.
He was also named the country’s best live act at the 2016 Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
Prior to his incredible show at TRNSMT in 2018, he appeared at the first incarnation of the festival in 2017 on the King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut stage.
His first album Erratic Cinematic was released in September 2017 through direct-to-fan platform Pledge Music.
It shot through the album charts despite only being promoted by Cinnamon via a single Facebook post.
Cinnamon also supported The Courteeners on their November 2018 tour of the UK. His set at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow went down a storm, despite the musician having to fight off a bug and playing “half deaf”.
Had to bounce out my sickbed for the Hydro gig. Couldn’t eat anything. Lost my voice. Was looking for a way out but no chance I was patching it. Charged on & blew my ear first song. Half deaf. Crowd carried me all the way. The mayhem o Glesga is buried deep in ma blood. Thank u x pic.twitter.com/ltVTfsdCcH

His first 2018 shows in the City of Discovery (in Fat Sam’s) went down rather well, as this video shows.
