Police ‘categorically’ deny prior involvement with man found dead outside Dundee multi-storey

Police in Tayside have “categorically” denied officers had any prior interaction with a man found dead outside a Dundee multi-storey.

Eyewitnesses and friends claimed the 41-year-old was pursued by police on Monday afternoon shortly before he plunged from a block of residential flats at Adamson Court in Lochee.

Police Scotland refused to clarify whether officers had been present at the scene in relation to any other incident at the time of his death.

A large number of emergency vehicles were present and the area was sealed off to neighbouring Elders Court late into the night while investigations continued into the circumstances of the death.

Police Scotland initially refused to comment on claims put forward by close friends of the deceased and local residents present at the time of his death that he had been pursued by officers.

However, the force has now denied any involvement with the man prior to the incident.

A spokesman said: “Shortly after 4.30pm, we were notified of an injured man having been found on the ground in the immediate vicinity of Adamson Court in Lochee.

“This was the first awareness by Police Scotland of the incident. Despite medical interventions, the man succumbed to his injuries.

“Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the death which is being treated at this time as unexplained.”

Superintendent Graeme Murdoch of Tayside Division said: “I can categorically confirm at this stage that officers of Police Scotland had no involvement whatsoever in the circumstances leading up to this tragic incident.

“We were neither seeking the man concerned in relation to other inquiries, nor was there any kind of pursuit or contact by officers prior to the incident.

“Whilst it is important that communities in Dundee have confidence that officers did not in any way contribute to the circumstances, it is even more important that the man’s family know what happened and that is our priority today.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends as they try to deal with this tragic incident”.
