A woman was thrown from a moving car in a midday assault in Dundee.
Police are searching for the driver of a red Fiat 500, which was seen “screaming” away from the incident on the junction of South Road and Buttar’s Loan on Tuesday.
One nearby resident, who asked not to be named, rushed to the scene to assist two women who were sitting on the kerb in a state of shock.
He said: “A red Fiat came screaming down the road and a blue car had to slam on its brakes because of that.
“I went over and spoke to the two girls, who were sitting on the kerb, as my wife called the police.
“The police arrived at about that time so someone else must have phoned them already. The women looked no older than my daughter, who is 18.
“One was injured. She was really upset. They both were, but the one that was injured was really, really upset. Her face was a mess with scabs. I asked them if they wanted a cup of tea.
“They wouldn’t tell me what happened, but my wife saw the incident itself and she said the car went up on the grassy verge and it looked like the woman was thrown out. It’s unbelievable.”
The man said three police vehicles and an ambulance attended, with a section of South Road taped off “for at least two hours”.
Police are following a “positive line of enquiries” but issued an appeal for witnesses.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “Enquiries are ongoing after a woman was assaulted in South Road at lunchtime. She was taken to hospital for treatment.
“We are following a positive line of enquiry and looking to trace a man who left the scene in a red Fiat 500. Please call 101 quoting 1340 of 5 Feb if you can help.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 1157 to attend the an incident on South Road, Dundee.
“We dispatched an ambulance and paramedic response unit to the location and transferred a female patient to Ninewells Hospital.”
